Summary
Using scanning electrochemical cell microscopy (SECCM), this study achieves nanoscale-resolved detection of electrochemical activity at individual defects in 2D transition-metal dichalcogenides. SECCM voltammetry reveals site-specific activity at steps, edges, and basal planes, with high spatial resolution. The method distinguishes distinct defect types and correlates them with electrocatalytic response, providing a powerful tool to probe local reactivity in 2D materials for device and catalyst design.
This work advances fundamental understanding of defect–electrocatalytic behavior in 2D materials and informs design of nanoscale devices.
