About the Korean Physical Society (KPS)
The Korean Physical Society (KPS) traces its origins back to the Chosun Mathematical and Physical Society, established in 1946 by researchers in mathematics and physics (renamed the Korean Mathematical and Physical Society in 1948). Amid the Korean War in 1952, the physical science division separated from what would later become the Korean Mathematical Society, officially founding the Korean Physical Society.
For over 70 years, KPS has pursued its mission—outlined in its bylaws—to promote the development and dissemination of physics. As a result, the society has grown steadily and now stands as Korea’s leading physics organization with 12 divisions, 7 regional branches, and over 18,000 members.
KPS actively engages in international collaboration, having established cooperative agreements with the Physical Society of Japan, the American Physical Society, and five other national societies. It is also a member of major international organizations in physics, including IUPAP, AAPPS, and APCTP.
